Trailblazers To Launch Regional E-Bike Rebate Incentive Program Funded by EPA Grant

August 15, 2024

Bentonville, Ark—The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced on July 22, 2024, that the Tri-Regional Arkansas CPRG Coalition has been awarded a $99,999,999 Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) for its "Energy and Environment Innovation for the Natural State" proposal. This significant grant will fund various projects across Central Arkansas, Northwest Arkansas, and Fort Smith, representing half of the state's population.

As part of this historic EPA grant, Trailblazers will spearhead the development and implementation of a $7 million Regional E-Bike Rebate Incentive Program. This initiative aims to reduce emissions by promoting the use of electric bicycles in three key metropolitan areas: Central Arkansas, Fort Smith, and Northwest Arkansas. The program will provide rebates to residents in these regions, making e-bikes more accessible and affordable as a sustainable mode of transportation.

Trailblazers is currently in the early phases of developing this program. Detailed information on eligibility and application procedures will be available soon. We encourage the community members to follow Trailblazers for updates as the Regional E-Bike Rebate Incentive Program progresses.

The CPRG award will fund a variety of projects designed to reduce emissions and enhance environmental sustainability. In addition to the Regional E-Bike Rebate Incentive Program, other initiatives include protecting and restoring natural areas, increasing energy efficiency, and improving access to active transportation and transit. These efforts will help reduce transportation sector emissions, support net-zero technologies for buildings, and ensure equitable access to the environmental benefits funded by the grant.

"The coalition really showed their professionalism and technical expertise developing a collaborative and effective pollution reduction program. Trailblazers is thrilled to participate as a sub-awardee in the program, and we're grateful to Metroplan, NWARPC, and the State of Arkansas for allowing this opportunity to become a reality," David Criswell, Senior Director of Active Transportation

Metroplan, the lead agency on the grant submittal, collaborated with the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission and the City of Fort Smith to secure this prestigious award.

Trailblazers' E-Bike Rebate Incentive Program is expected to launch in the coming months, with detailed information on eligibility and application procedures to be provided soon.
